02 Oct 08 The 'bra'and "Give War a Chance"

02 Oct 08 The 'bra'and "Give War a Chance"
I'm in Doha now and will board a flight to Frankfurt and then Rome tonight.  The military base (IUD) at Doha is much nicer than the Army base that I would have flown in/out of if I had gone to Kuwait.  I"m not surprised since Doha is run by the Air Force and one thing I've learned about the AF is that they spare no expense.  ANYTHING can be shipped by a C-130 and the AF (god bless them) to great lengths to prove so.  Anyway the compound is built around 'the bra' a huge meeting/gathering/hang out area.  They also show movies there.  Free wireless is everywhere AND you even get all the 'good' sites! Again, God Bless the AF!  Doha has a beautiful pool AND there are a LOT of Aussies here.  So much so that there a 'pub' near the bra where you can get your 3 drink alcohol ration per day.  On the door is the 'Give War a Chance' sticker.  Eh, there's a bit of truth there.  Also below is a pic of the flags of the coalition nations here at Doha.  10 points if you can name them all.
R/Chris

I am amazed by the amount of money is dumped into facilities like this. Not that the troops deserve everything the US can provide, but this facility represents the idea that the Bush administration does not plan to leave this area - that is discraceful. I am horrified to see such an expensive facility in a country "10,000" miles away - this pool should be in one of our bases here, in America! I am so ashamed of the way this administration is treating our amazing troops...
