060609 Laundry, Taco Time and Power Lines mean no trees
One of the nice things about living overseas is that I don't have to
do my laundry. I just throw it in a bag and can then pick up clean
laundry in about 72 hours. Everyone here (soliders and civilians) use
the same laundry service. Generally (at JBB) the laundry is only done
my Philippinoes. KBR actually has the laundry contract but (like a
lot of things) that contract is subcontracted out and in our case to a
company that pretty much only hires Philippinoes.
The new power lines can carry 4 times the amount of electricity as the
old lines. Unfortunately the new power lines meant that the nearby
trees has to be chopped down. Why the trees could not have been
trimmed so as to avoid the wires is beyond me. I'm sure it's easier to
chop down than to trim and it's not like the 'residents' here had any
choice in the matter. So what was once a tree lined street and
sidewalk is now a dual path of concrete power lines.
I don't eat at Taco Time much in the states since it's just cheap
mexican food and there are usually better choices. But overseas, Taco
Time is one of the Big 4 (Pizza Hut, KFC and Subway) and now is more
of a treat that I can look forward to every now and then. Of course,
what would be a Taco Time in Iraq without the ambiance of concrete
T-walls surrounding it?
